Hey everybody, it’s movie time! I’m re-writing the words from the start of a Styx hit song and saying today is “movie time!” For movie time today, let’s watch (or maybe not watch) “ffolkes” with Roger Moore. Here is a movie so bad it has had three different titles; the “ffolkes” title is spelled two different ways in the original movies; it made bupkes at the box office; and quoting my own review, “Whatever passes for “action” here isn’t very good and Moore at age 53 in a wetsuit is a just a visual disgrace.”
“ffolkes” is the story of a leader of a mercenary commando group that’s called in when a criminal group (they weren’t “terrorists,” just criminals) holds a North Sea oil drilling operation hostage. It would be more believable if the international criminal mastermind behind the plot wasn’t named “Lou.”
Ah, well.
Moore as “ffolkes” was the correct age to be leading his band of mercenaries, but since he’s called into action, it’s a pretty pathetic effort. However, what little is redeemable in “ffolkes” is from two actors: James Mason and Anthony Perkins. Otherwise, it’s an undistinguished lot in a very, very bad motion picture.
I’m a big fan of Moore as “007 – James Bond,” but he also put out the stinkers such as “ffolkes.” Then again, actors need to earn money, too.
So, frankly, that’s about all I can write about it today. Check out my review of “ffolkes” and you’ll probably not want to see it … I guarantee it!
