It’s movie time! ‘Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?’ is as much fun as its title is long

Hey everybody, it’s movie time! I’m re-writing the words from the start of a Styx hit song and saying today is “movie time!” For movie time today, let’s watch “Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?” Here’s one of those “light” films from the late 1970s, if you can call a plot with multiple murders “light.” It’s fun, engaging and a nice way to spend 112 minutes.

“Who is Killing …” stars George Segal, Jacqueline Bissett and Robert Morley and is the story of a bunch of top-flight chefs being killed in the manner of their cooking style: roasted, pressed or drowned in an aquarium (that chef’s specialty was lobster). Of course, the who and the why is the point of the story.

As the backstory to “Who is Killing …,” you have Segal and Bissett as former spouses … he’s into fast-food franchising and she’s the world top dessert chef. At the center of the film is a fat, blustering, egomaniacal magazine publisher who makes and breaks careers in cuisine through his gourmet food magazine.

“Who is Killing …” a an easy-to-watch flick despite the murders (all done as tastefully well as the chefs’ signature meals) and you’ll enjoy the comedy aspects such as when Segal, an American, gets confused about how the British label “floors” in buildings.

“Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe” isn’t easy to find and I had to buy mine on eBay years ago and I haven’t checked to see if it is streaming now. Also, it was released in the United Kingdom as “Too Many Chefs.” In any case, it is worth the effort it takes in finding it. You’ll have a nice, fun viewing with it … I guarantee it!
