Hey everybody, it’s movie time! I’m re-writing the words from the start of a Styx hit song and saying today is “movie time!” For movie time today, let’s watch Doris Day in “The Glass Bottom Boat.” Today (Sunday, July 20, 2024) might be a day for you to enjoy light-hearted, family-friendly fluff … and “The Glass Bottom Boat” has very cool roots in 1960s tee-vee, “007” and “futuristic” gadgets.
The basic story of “The Glass Bottom Boat” is that Day, who on weekends swims as a “mermaid” to entertain patrons aboard her father’s
glass-bottomed boat, is a widow who has a day job in the public relations department of a space-age company. It’s CEO “catches” her one day without realizing that she works for him.
Since the Cold War as well as space race is in full swing, the CEO is the toast of the town and she’s chosen by the company to write his biography. It soon becomes a question if she’s a spy for the Russians! Well, you get everything from the coolest 1960s party you’ll ever see to TV icons including Paul Lynde and Dick Martin to even the nosy next-door neighbors from “Bewitched” (however, they’re nice here).
All-in-all, I don’t need to write any more because, of course, everything comes up roses for just about everyone and “The Glass Bottom Boat” will leave you feeling wonderful for a long time.
I didn’t research how easy it is to find “The Glass Bottom Boat” in today’s streaming world, but find it and you’ll have a really fun time watching … I guarantee it!
