Hey everybody, it’s movie time! I’m re-writing the words from the start of a Styx hit song and saying today is “movie time!” For movie time tonight, let’s watch “Used Cars” with Kurt Russell. Here’s a fall-down, split-your-belly comedy that has gotten lost along the way since its premiere in 1980.
“Used Cars” has it all: gross-out humor; profane language; vulgar … well, vulgar everywhere! Here’s a movie where the main character (Russell as “Rudy Russo”) tells a joke, but you only hear the punchline. Yet, you laugh uproariously because you know the rest of it was priceless.
You also get tee-vee’s “Lenny” and “Squiggy” as a couple of electronics nerds that push every boundary you can imagine as well as a car salesman who takes a 12-gauge shotgun in a fake advertisement and shoots up the competition’s cars before using dynamite on the last one!
I won’t spoil anything else for you from “Used Cars,” but you even get a mean-tempered dog called “Toby” (the director was quoted in real life as saying the mutt was the worst he ever worked with) that urinates … oh, I’ll let you find that one out for yourself.
“Used Cars” is simply great comedy on the big screen and now you can see it on your big screen at home; on your laptop; or on the little screen on your phone. You will be on the floor laughing at this one (even as a corpse drives a car into a blazing debacle at one point). “Used Cars” is great … I guarantee it!
