Here’s what I’ve come to call the “Sad Tree.” It was a tree placed in a neighbor’s yard here in Naples, Fla., apparently to provide shade for an area struggling to keep grass growing. However, the tree was brittle and snapped a couple of times, but it grew back. The last was Hurricane Ian before this past week’s Hurricane Helene that passed to the west in the Gulf of Mexico. One photo shows the debris of the tree and the other
post-clean up. I’m no arborist, so I cannot tell you what kind of tree it was … except to say it’s sad to lose it. Such “brittle” trees do not last many seasons in the gusty weather of Southwest Florida. I got the debris photo two days ago (Sept. 27, 2024) and the photo of the stump today (Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024).
