Hey everybody, it’s movie time! I’m re-writing the words from the start of a Styx hit song and saying today is “movie time!” For movie time tonight, let’s watch “Aliens” with Sigourney Weaver. “Aliens” is one of the very few sequels that is even better than a great original!
“Aliens” picks up with Weaver being found in “hyper-sleep” aboard a derelict spacecraft floating aimlessly through the universe – and she’s being doing this for 50 years. She is the lone survivor after an alien that infected a planet then came aboard her ship and killed all the crew except herself.
Ultimately, Weaver goes back to the planet, which had since been colonized without anyone seeing any aliens. Well, a squad of “Colonial Marines” will take care of any “bugs” they find, right? Uh, well … uh …
… that notion is about to change!
“Aliens” is a very strong movie standing on its own, but you’ll appreciate it even more if you’ve seen “Alien” from 1979. Weaver leads a strong cast that includes Michael Biehn, Carrie Henn, Lance Henriksen and the late Bill Paxton. You also have top-shelf director James Cameron at the helm after Ridley Scott directed the original.
The story flows to perfection; the special effects are solid; and you’ll be scared of the aliens, too!
In the end, “Aliens” is more of a duel between Weaver and the mother alien and both are tough, engaged opponents. I’ll let you find out which one wins! You will enjoy “Aliens” … I guarantee it!
