Hey everybody, it’s movie time! I’m re-writing the words from the start of a Styx hit song and saying today is “movie time!” For movie time tonight, let’s watch “A Fish Called Wanda” with Jamie Lee Curtis, John Cleese and Kevin Kline. Here’s a Monty Python-esque comedy that is truly an incredibly funny film.
Although with “A Fish Called Wanda” you get wonderful performances from Cleese, Curtis and Michael Palin, the movie simply belongs to the maniacal behavior of Kline, who plays a paranoid schizophrenic who torments just about everyone … including his girlfriend played by Curtis.
“A Fish Called Wanda” is a caper film set in London with a gang whose members totally distrust each other and all of them distrusting Kline the most, although Curtis is probably the most ruthless, but comes out of that shell by falling in love with Cleese, who plays a longsuffering barrister (that’s what they call a litigator in the UK) that is hired when of the gang is arrested (after being turned in by another gang member).
All in all, “A Fish Called Wanda” is a complete film: it is a comedy; it has layers; and the work by the actors is superb. There’s not much else to tell you except to recommend that you find it soonest and enjoy it. “A Fish Called Wanda” is a truly wonderful film … I guarantee it!
