Hi again in this new year of 2025. I’m going with the reminder of the fractured phrase: Hooray for Hollyweird! Most of us love movies and I enjoy recommending what you should watch on any given day. So, Hooray for Hollyweird … and for today’s recommendation I have: “The Dukes of Hazzard” in movie form from the comedy troupe “Broken Lizard” that brought you “Super Troopers” and its sequel (click here to read my review of the sequel).
Of course, the movie is based on the iconic popular tee-vee show of the same name and “The Dukes of Hazzard” movie is a whole lot of fun, especially because of the work by Johnny Knoxville, Burt Reynolds and singer-songwriter-actor Willie Nelson (and he hosts a group session at a barbecue in the “smokehouse”). The rest of the cast is solid, too, with one exception and help make enjoyable the 107 minutes of running time.
Unlike other “reboots” of a tee-vee show coming out today as a film, “The Dukes of Hazzard” stays true to the roots of the original (unlike the execrable “CHIPS” but better than the OK “Baywatch” movie) and it’s about a couple of country cousins (Knoxville and Seann William Scott) running moonshine for their uncle (Nelson) and aided at times by their beautiful cousin (Jessica Simpson). They battle the evil intentions of Reynolds and his police henchmen.
OK, so a lot of “The Dukes of Hazzard” will send the “woke” crowd into a seizure (just watch the “Appalachian-American” scene with some black guys or much of Simpson’s performance or at the sorority house segment), but for the rest of the audience, the film is fun, entertaining and you don’t need to divine anything from it except that you enjoy it!
“Broken Lizard” is a wonderful comedy troupe that is a little uneven in its movie resume, but rest assured that they hit a home run with this one and “The Dukes of Hazzard” should be right up your alley so you can say, “Hooray for Hollyweird!”
