For this year, I’m going with the reminder of the fractured phrase: Hooray for Hollyweird! Most of us love movies and I enjoy recommending what you should watch on any given day. So, Hooray for Hollyweird … and for today’s recommendation, I’m going with the wonderfully scary TV movie from 1972 about a vampire in Las Vegas: “The Night Stalker.”
I know I just recalled all my horror films last Halloween, but I see that “The Night Stalker” as well as its sequel “The Night Strangler” is available on YouTube for free (click here to watch “The Night Stalker” … or … click here to watch “The Night Strangler”) and wanted to suggest watching, even though it is not Halloween.
“The Night Stalker” uses tension and surprise to scare the audience and it does a good job – just wait until you see the vampire (his eyes only) for the first time! Darren McGavin stars as newspaper reporter “Carl Kolchak” and this movie would spin off a tee-vee series that became a cult favorite with the horror crowd.
McGavin begrudgingly starts reporting the case of a murdered woman, “who lost a lot of blood.” Then another and another. Soon, he becomes convinced that he’s on the trail of a vampire and, of course, no one believes him from is irascible editor to the cops.
Now, the sequel isn’t about a vampire and isn’t as good as “The Night Stalker,” which was the highest rated TV movie for two years. So, click on the links above to enjoy a little horror … in the old-fashioned way and you’ll definitely say … “Hooray for Hollyweird!”
