For this year, I’m going with the reminder of the fractured phrase: Hooray for Hollyweird! Most of us love movies and I enjoy recommending what you should watch on any given day. So, Hooray for Hollyweird … and for today’s recommendation, let’s go “glacial” with “Local Hero.” By “glacial,” I mean this is a movie from the United Kingdom … Scotland in this case … and it isn’t just slow moving, but it is “glacial” in its pace.
Don’t get me wrong, I heartily endorse this film because “Local Hero” offers serenity and slow-motion watchability that should leave you enjoying the moment. Heck, only two characters in the film raise their voices. Action? You’re kidding, right? Violence? You’d be outta your mind believing you’d see it here. The most action is when a motorbike crosses in front of a pedestrian (and I’m not kidding).

However, “Local Hero” is truly outstanding. It is the story of a U.S. company that wants, in secret, to buy a town in Scotland for oil operations in the North Sea. Of course, only top executives of the company believe it is secret – everyone else is in the know and it’s just how much the town can get out of the company to enrich everyone.
Again and of course, things go haywire in “Local Hero” through a serene, intellectual beach dweller; a financial whiz who operates an inn and his hot-blooded wife; an odd corporate executive who loves astronomy and finds that the town is perfect for an observatory and marine research facility; and townsfolk in on the secret but don’t let on to the company executive on the ground at the town.
Sigh. I can’t sell this one enough, but you’ll probably hate the recommendation because of its “glacial” pace. Ah, well. I can just write my opinion of “Local Hero” … it’s a streaming world … find it and then you’ll definitely say … “Hooray for Hollyweird!”
