Hooray for Hollyweird! ‘Blockers’ continues a nice tradition of raunchy being funny

We’re headed to the summer of 2025 and I’m continuing the fractured phrase: Hooray for Hollyweird! Most of us love movies and I enjoy recommending what you should watch on any given day. So, Hooray for Hollyweird … and for today’s recommendation, let’s wander back into raunchy comedy territory with “Blockers.”

Even the title of “Blockers” is raunchy because it’s missing a single first word that would have pretty much immediately made sure that it couldn’t be released in 75 percent of the countries on Earth. However, an inference is obviously acceptable.

“Blockers” is the story of several sets of parents who don’t want their high school senior daughters to have sex on prom night and so they become … “Blockers!” Although not as good as several comedy classics, “Blockers” is worthy of your time … from the butt-chugging scene to one in the dark, filmmakers did an OK job with this one.

Here’s a paragraph straight from my review:

A promotional “still” photograph from the movie “Blockers.”

“You might as well call ‘Blockers’ a poor man’s ‘American Pie’ (click here for my look at the franchise). Its cast isn’t as good with a poor man’s Dwayne Johnson in the form of Cena; the story is a notch or two down but has strength because it does deliver a nice twist of focusing on the parents; and it doesn’t overcome the obvious stereotypes with the verve of “American Pie,” but still manages not to wallow in mediocrity. However, none of that is heavy criticism, since “American Pie” is a raunch-comedy classic.”

“Blockers” doesn’t have an A-list cast, at best they’re a B- cast, but, still, they get the job done from the youngsters to the parents. One nice thing is that of the three female actors in high school, the oldest was 22 at filming. It’s good because you all too often get someone in their late 20s as a high school student.

Go ahead and check out “Blockers” … and then you’ll definitely say … “Hooray for Hollyweird!”
