Hooray for Hollyweird! ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ is dark, disturbing and about as good as it gets in cinema

We’re headed to the summer of 2025 and I’m continuing the fractured phrase: Hooray for Hollyweird! Most of us love movies and I enjoy recommending what you should watch on any given day. So, Hooray for Hollyweird … and for today’s recommendation, let’s get into some dark, dark territory with “The Silence of the Lambs” with Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins.

“The Silence of the Lambs” won five Oscars including best in film, actor, actress, director and adapted screenplay. It’s the story of two serial killers: one in a dungeon-like prison cell and the other chalking up victims. Their link becomes an FBI trainee named “Clarice Starling” and played to perfection by Foster. The killer in custody becomes one of the most iconic characters in crime cinema: “Hannibal ‘The Cannibal’ Lecter” played by Hopkins.

Here is a promotional “still” photograph from the movie “The Silence of the Lambs.”

At just under 25 minutes on screen, Hopkins won “best actor” with the second-least amount of time on screen. I don’t know, but they might have given him two if he got more time in front of the camera. It is the piecing together of the current crimes and what Foster can get out of Hopkins, but he’s playing his own game in “The Silence of the Lambs” and he is far ahead of the authorities both in intelligence and knowledge (he knows the killer’s identity and just toys with them as he works to get a chance to escape custody).

In any case, “The Silence of the Lambs” is a movie that will disturb you (the active serial killer is a true piece of work – naturally), but it is far superior to the last 999 films released on the planet and I can’t even begin to have an idea of which one was even a near equal.

Go ahead and check out “The Silence of the Lambs” … we’re in a streaming day and then you’ll definitely say … “Hooray for Hollyweird!”
