We’re at the cusp of the summer of 2025 and I’m continuing the fractured phrase: Hooray for Hollyweird! Most of us love movies and I enjoy recommending what you should watch on any given day. So, Hooray for Hollyweird … and for today’s recommendation, school’s out … so, let’s enjoy a great “summer” flick: “Summer School” with Mark Harmon and Kirstie Alley.
The calendar hit June and since we no longer have children in public school (both are college grads now), the end of the school year kinda crept up on me. “Summer School” can get you into the mood for fun in the summer … even if you have to spend some time in the classroom.
Harmon stars as the slacker phys-ed teacher who’s blackmailed into teaching a bunch of “losers” in a remedial summer school class. He has to cancel his summer trip to Hawaii with his girlfriend in order to keep his job. Well, in “Summer School,” let the stereotypes begin.
Actually, “Summer School’s” class of “losers,” while comprised of stereotypes, has some creative characters and the actors do an OK job. You got the nerd who inexplicably is “dumb;” the jock with bad grades; the pregnant girl; a “dumb” girl who isn’t dumb, but has an undiagnosed case of dyslexia; two horror film gore addicts; a guy who sleeps in class because he’s a stripper at night; and the beautiful surfer girl who challenges Harmon for being a slacker.
Whew!
I’ll let you find out each’s backstory in “Summer School” and, of course, you know everything works out for everyone except for the nasty vice principal in charge of summer school who loses Alley to Harmon as the teachers become a couple!
You can’t go wrong, so check out “Summer School” … we’re in a streaming day and then you’ll definitely say … “Hooray for Hollyweird!”
