We’re near the beginning of the fall season for 2025 and I’m continuing the fractured phrase: Hooray for Hollyweird! Most of us love movies and I enjoy recommending what you should watch on any given day. So, Hooray for Hollyweird … and for today’s recommendation, let’s venture down the “007” trail with Roger Moore in “Octopussy.”
Here’s a Bondian film that doesn’t quite measure up to either the franchise’s standards or even in the Roger Moore world of spies. “Octopussy” has all the elements of the franchise (international scope; international villain; saving the world), but doesn’t execute them very well.
“Octopussy” is a mysterious woman who has hidden ties to Moore’s character, but also to the super-villain played to perfection by the late Louis Jourdan. The supporting cast is a bit thin, but has an excellent small role by real-life professional tennis player Vijay Amritraj (who plays, “Vijay”) as a fellow spy with Moore and Bollywood legend Kabir Bedi plays Jourdan’s henchman (what super-villain doesn’t have one?).
Moore does mostly his usual turn as the superspy, but there’s something missing throughout his performance. I mean, how difficult is it to continue the mannerisms of the character that you developed?
Ah well, in any case “Octopussy” has Moore as the world’s most famous spy and is easy to find in this streaming day and you will enjoy it … and then you’ll definitely say … “Hooray for Hollyweird!”
