Welcome back to my blog as January in 2026 is near its close. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, for today it’s time already in the new year to tell you NOT to watch “The Jackal” starring Bruce Willis and Richard Gere.
“The Jackal” is a kind of “reboot” of one of my favorite films from one of my favorite novels: “The Day of the Jackal.” On the other hand, “The Jackal” is a rank film that reeks from start to finish. Some idiots have also taken the full name of the original work and made it into an execrable tee-vee series that’s also not worth your time.
Don’t watch them!
“The Jackal” is the story of an assassin on the trail of a major political figure in the U.S. Filmmakers tried to have a twisting, convoluted plot, but just managed to shovel a steaming pile not worth watching.
“The Jackal” has one decent supporting actor: Jack Black, who runs afoul of Willis’ murderous personality. All the rest including Willis, Gere, screen legend Sidney Poitier and J.K. Simmons are all lost in the morass of the screenplay and don’t appear to care one whit about how the movie turned out.
So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch anything else but “The Jackal.” You’ll definitely thank me later.
