HAPPY NEW YEAR! Yes, today (March 12) in 2026, is the Aztec New Year! The calendar on our refrigerator and its beach scenes might say March on the Gregorian calendar, but another new year has begun. It is wonderful to have a “new year” begin on different dates across the globe, from China (usually in February; sometimes late January; and this is the year of the Horse) to orthodox celebrations of Christmas and a new year exactly one week following the same celebrations from the Gregorian calendar. As for the “Aztec” calendar, here’s Wiki: “The Aztec or Mexica calendar is the calendrical system used by the Aztecs as well as other Pre-Columbian peoples of central Mexico. It is one of the Mesoamerican calendars, sharing the basic structure of calendars from throughout the region.” I got this shot of the calendar on our refrigerator at our home here in Naples, Fla., on March 11, 2026.
