Ticket to the Movies: RIP for martial arts star Chuck Norris

Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, today I’m recommending any film featuring martial arts specialist and action-film legend Chuck Norris, who died at 86 this past week on Hawaii’s island of Kauai where the star had a vacation home.

Norris, who became most famous for his title role on the television series “Walker, Texas Ranger,” was versatile in that he was a martial arts champion; taught martial arts (including to stars such as Steve McQueen); starred in films; starred on TV; and was an author of a variety of books, including two novels.

The biggest non-starring role for Norris when he played the out-of-character bad guy “Colt,” who winds up fighting Bruce Lee at the Colosseum in Rome in Lee’s martial arts thriller “The Way of the Dragon.” After that film, which was released in the U.S. in 1974 and had its premiere in Hong Kong in 1972, Norris stuck to being the “good guy” with a moral and ethical compass set on “good.”

I most enjoyed his late 1970s and 1980s films the most, including “Good Guys Wear Black” and “The Octagon.” On screen, Norris was just about the coolest of the good guys of his age. He went on to bigger fame with a series of flicks about Vietnam and then onto his iconic television series (of which, I haven’t seen a single episode).

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and give an RIP to Norris and check out the body of his work!
