Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, today (Friday, April 24, 2026) is the second and third rounds of this year’s NFL Draft and let’s go with the film “Draft Day” starring Kevin Costner and I’ll just reprise last season’s comments, because none have changed!
Let’s go …
An NFL team in “Draft Day” is portrayed in the movie as ultimately drafting for honor and integrity and that’s just about as much fantasy football as you can handle. Absolutely no NFL team does that … and hasn’t for decades.
However, “Draft Day” is actually a good film once you suspend your disbelief in what you’re seeing is in any way, shape or form how the NFL works. Costner is the fictional general manager of the Cleveland Browns (a real team) and is being pressured by the obviously stoopid owner to draft the biggest “name” to make the biggest public relations splash – and forget what the team really needs.
Costner does a wonderful job in “Draft Day” and, for the most part, the rest of the cast does a solid job. Unfortunately, all are let down by a depressingly poor screenplay that doesn’t really manage to offer the actors the best chance to put their best foot forward (the scene where the ashes of Costner’s father are scattered on the field is excruciating).
Still, you find yourself pulling for Costner, who previously fired his own father from the team, to pull off all that he needs to do.
Well, as in any fantasy, you get your wish and the fantasy of football is complete.
So, that’s the end of last year’s rant …
So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” or and watch “Draft Day” It’s available on a limited number of streaming services and available to rent on just a few others. So, find it! Watch it! Don’t worry, you’ll thank me later for “Draft Day.”
