Ticket to the Movies: ‘Dirty Grandpa’ with De Niro, Efron rated by 3 letters … O M G

Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, today it’s time to delve into a very R-rated comedy with “Dirty Grandpa” starring Robert De Niro and Zac Efron. Basically, the first 30 minutes has you muttering nothing but “OMG … OMG!”

“Dirty Grandpa” is the story of a grandfather (De Niro) and a grandson (Efron) who go on a road trip – never mind the thin details, just go along for the ride! De Niro is the polar opposite of Efron: He’s crude; he’s vulgar; and he’s the pure definition of non-politically correct. Oh, don’t confuse “Dirty Grandpa” with Johnny Knoxville’s flick called “Bad Grandpa” (it’s been retitled “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, as if you should rename a movie).

In any case, in “Dirty Grandpa” you have De Niro, whose wife just died and now he’s abandoning his conservative persona and going hyper-sexual from not having inhibitions (the family-room chair scene while he watches porn is somewhat disturbing) to virtually every comment made is offensive to someone, such as his incredibly disgusting description of Efron’s golf attire through an analogy to Queen Latifa.

However, De Niro wants Efron to come out of that younger man’s shell and the grandfather-grandson duo happen across an old flame of Efron’s and they wind up on a detour to Daytona Beach for spring break action.

Whew! De Niro’s comments in “Dirty Grandpa” could likely give a liberal a stroke or at least a seizure. Well, the plot doesn’t matter much, but there’s one and it makes the film’s transition scenes at least somewhat logical.

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Dirty Grandpa.” It’s been available as part of a Netflix subscription and is available to rent on several streaming services. So, find it! Watch it! Don’t worry, you’ll thank me later for “Dirty Grandpa.”
