Every May 10 (as today in 2026), enjoy national Shrimp Day

What’s the first thing that I cooked as I was home recovering from knee-replacement surgery? It was boiling these wonderful shrimp! I did the kitchen thing at our home in Naples, Fla., on Oct. 2, 2017. My surgery was on Sept. 19.
You couldn’t have tossed this shrimp on the “barbie,” even though it was part of the display of sea farming at the The Land. We were on the Living with the Land ride when I got this shot at EPCOT on Feb. 5, 2017.
OK, it’s Friday (Sept. 20, 2024) and it’s time to … cook shrimp! I got this shot at our home in Naples, Fla., while getting ready for a weekend of college football.

Each May 10 is national Shrimp Day and since today is May 10, 2026, it is Shrimp Day! From internet sources: “… the shellfish (is) commonly called the fruit of the sea.’ Shrimp are interesting characters, and some can even glow in the dark! … In the United States, shrimp is eaten more than any other type of seafood …” I enjoy shrimp (sometimes the plural is spelled “shrimps”) whether it is boiled and chilled including in a salad or with fried rice; and, of course, also breaded and fried. I’ve even photographed them at Walt Disney World! So, enjoy Shrimp Day! BTW … the top photo was taken at WDW in 2017 and the lower photo was taken in the kitchen of our home here in Naples, Fla., the same year.
