Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, I just recommended the original 1960 caper movie “Ocean’s 11” with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. and today I’m recommending it’s reboot “Ocean’s Eleven” from 2001 from director Steven Soderbergh and starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon.

“Ocean’s Eleven” brings you a modernized gang as of 2001, but the plot to rob Las Vegas casinos remains far-fetched and forces you to suspend your disbelief just as much as the original – but without as many cigarettes.

However, like the original, “Ocean’s Eleven” isn’t about the caper, it’s about a group of guys and Clooney’s somewhat ex- just having fun and being entertaining for the audience. Just like the original Rat Pack anchored in the 1950s and into the 1960s first by Humphrey Bogart and then Frank Sinatra, the remake puts forward a new era of cool.

Soderbergh and the filmmaking team updated the original with an even more interesting cast of characters that you remember for more than five minutes after leaving the theater (or the sofa in front of your home big screen). “Ocean’s Eleven” is nowhere the embarrassment that you’ll find with so many “reboots.”
In “Ocean’s Eleven,” the group is going to rob the Vegas casinos owned by Andy Garcia, who plays cold, efficient casino boss “Terry Benedict.” At the heart of the caper is Clooney attempting to win back his former wife, whose now hooking up with Garcia.
Unlike the original, in which the stolen money goes up in flames through a misstep with a body, a funeral home and a cremation, the guys don’t lose the money, but the ending is such that you knew at the time there would be sequels (and there were two).
So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Ocean’s Eleven.” It is available to stream as part of a subscription on several services as well as being available to rent on others. So, find it! Watch it! Don’t worry, you’ll thank me later (maybe, or maybe not) for “Ocean’s Eleven.”
