Two issues are interesting with this photo of this sign: One, how the message “RETAIL THEFT OP” is clear as the human eye sees it, but how a camera’s lens shows that the lights are actually blinking; and two, that it is so sad that we need a sign in the middle of a median to remind thieves that law enforcement is at work in the popular store adjacent to the street. My dashcam caught the image, but you only see part of it – the full message, if you wait, is “RETAIL THEFT OP IN PROGRESS.” I’m glad the Collier County Sheriff’s Office schedules and even notifies of specialized enforcement against retail crime, but, still, it remains a sad commentary on our society, where there are so many thieves that we have to put signs in place to warn them.
