Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, recently I recommended first the original in a film series followed by the “reboot” and today I’m doing the reverse: I first recommended the reboot/sequel “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and today I’m recommending the original “Jumanji” with the frenetic excellence of Robin Williams, who is supported by Bonnie Hunt and a young Kirsten Dunst.

As you probably already know, “Jumanji” is the story of a boy “sucked” into a mesmerizing board game and who returns 26 years later when a pair of children find and begin to play the same game in the house which “took away” the young Williams.

Well, Williams is back and perplexed by the world to which he has returned because he’s been in the jungle-themed “Jumanji” and becomes chased by creatures from the game and especially a hunter from the game, who appears suspiciously as if his father from 26 years earlier was living in another time (and had muttonchop sideburns).

“Jumanji” has wonderful special effects, given it was released in 1995 and much of the film revolves around something that’s being done by creatures from the game. The effects are not much by today’s standard, but were very special in 1995 from bug-eyed monkeys to a stampede of a variety of animals to clinging vines as well as giant spiders.

As part of the adventure, Williams, Dunst and her film brother, must enlist the assistance of Bonnie Hunt, who plays the grown-up version of the girl who was playing the game with Williams when he “disappeared.” It is an interesting bit of recruitment of Hunt and she does a solid job throughout “Jumanji.”

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch the original: “Jumanji.” It is available primarily on Netflix, but also for rent on other streaming services. So, find it! Watch it! Don’t worry, you’ll thank me later for “Jumanji.” Yes, you will!
