Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s continue the “Bond, James Bond” theme today with “Tomorrow Never Dies” with Pierce Brosnan, which followed his sensational initial “Bond” flick “GoldenEye.” Sadly, “Tomorrow Never Dies” doesn’t reach the heights of “GoldenEye.”

With “Tomorrow Never Dies,” you get Brosnan with a somewhat stellar supporting cast that includes Judi Dench as Brosnan’s boss “M;” Jonathan Pryce as the supervillain “Elliot Carver;” Teri Hatcher as Pryce’s wife and former Bond … er, acquaintance “Paris Carver;” and Michele Yeoh as “Col. Wai Lin,” who is the Chinese equivalent of 007 and serious kick-ass specialist.
Unfortunately, the disparate parts of the film conspire to make it much less than a great “Bond” film:
-

A promotional still photograph from the movie “Tomorrow Never Dies.” The “supervillain” isn’t really super and while Pryce does a good job with the character, “Elliot Carver” isn’t anywhere near the reach of the bad guys named “Blofeld,” “ No” or “Auric Goldfinger.” Besides, how can “Elliot” appear as nasty as someone called “Dr. No?”
- The storyline of Pryce’s media conglomerate abetted by his private military force that’s looking to cause a war between the UK and China, appears more like some scattered violence instead of the world-threatening plots hatched by the aforementioned villains.

“Tomorrow Never Dies” as both a story and the production just do not work out in the best way possible. However, it has all the hallmarks of the traditional 007 film: international intrigue; sophisticated characters; and lots of action (including a motorcycle jumping over a helicopter’s spinning rotors).
So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Tomorrow Never Dies.” Today, it is available on Netflix and Amazon’s Prime and can be rented at two other streaming services. So, find it! Watch it! Don’t worry, you’ll thank me later for “Tomorrow Never Dies.” Oh, “Yes, you will!”
