Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s go with Clint Eastwood in his most recognized and iconic role as “Dirty Harry,” who is the San Francisco police detective on the case of a serial killer who is extorting the city through specifically targeted murders.

“Dirty Harry” was vilified at the time as a portrayal of a fascist cop trampling the public’s rights, while a silent majority of the audience agreed totally with the character. I’m sure Eastwood wasn’t fazed by the criticism, as through his talent he created one of the most memorable characters ever portrayed on the big screen.

Eastwood is assisted in “Dirty Harry” by a B-list supporting cast that does excellent work. Included in the supporting cast: John Vernon as the mayor; Andrew Robinson (then billed as Andy) as the psychotic killer known as “Scorpio;” Reni Santoni as Eastwood’s young partner; Josef Sommer as the prosecutor who, by determining a key but frustrating legal right, frees “Scorpio” to kill again; and Harry Guardino as Eastwood’s boss at the police department.

“Dirty Harry” finds his way through the seamiest crimes and incidents in San Francisco from shooting bank robbers to preventing a suicide to his mission to stop the killer. Eastwood uses all his talent in this one from his physical presence to emotion that’s not usually associated with the legendary actor and director.

Eastwood shows vulnerability by telling the wife of his wounded partner how the loss of his wife made him a changed man. He also has no trouble expressing his toughness and directness by shooting “Scorpio” in the leg and then stepping on the wound to torture from the killer the location of a woman he kidnapped and buried alive. Gentle is not in the world of “Dirty Harry” and that tactic helped “Scorpio” go free.

Of course, “Dirty Harry” culminates when Clint gets tired of everyone pussyfooting around and finally and completely takes off the gloves.

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Dirty Harry.” It is available on several subscription services and available to rent on some streaming services. So, find it! Watch it! Don’t worry, you’ll thank me later for “Dirty Harry.”
