Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, on this Independence Day of 2026 (the USA’s 250th birthday), let’s take a look at “Super Troopers 2” with the funny Broken Lizard comedy troupe with Jay Chandrasekhar in the director’s chair as well as co-starring as “Thorny” in the flick that was partially funded by an internet campaign in wake of the original that became a cult favorite. Meow!
In “Super Troopers 2,” you have the gang back together as the law enforcement for a small enclave on the Vermont-Canada border in which the U.S. has been named as now controlling the region. Of course, the locals don’t like that Canada has lost control of the area and the movie uses this premise for the group’s usual chain of hijinks.
The supporting cast of “Super Troopers 2” is headed by Rob Lowe and filled out by the usual suspects from Broken Lizard, including Kevin Heffernan and Brian Cox, who plays the leader of the U.S. contingent of officers. Others include a small role for Lynda Carter and a better one for Emmanuelle Chriqui.
You’ll also get Jim Gaffigan, who reprises his role as “Larry Johnson” and he’s looking for the troopers to put the “meow” into his traffic stop again (watch the first film to understand).
Just like for the original, “Super Troopers 2” can be an acquired taste. However, unlike in the original, which became a cult fav because of its innovative cleverness, I just find that something’s missing in “Super Troopers 2.” Is it bad? Well, it’s not good, but there’s a lot to like that somehow doesn’t manage by the end to pull everything together to be a solid comedy that it sought to be.
So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Super Troopers 2.” It is available on the Hulu and HBO Max subscription services as well as being available for rent on other streaming platforms. You’ll thank me later when you watch “Super Troopers 2” today!
