Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s take a look today at the quite quirky drama called “Grosse Pointe Blank” in which John Cusack is an assassin returning home both to kill and attend his 10th high school anniversary party! Yes, it doesn’t get much “quirkier” than that scenario.

What I appreciate most about “Grosse Pointe Blank” beyond the movie as a whole is the working of the outstanding supporting cast from Cusack’s sister Joan (his assistant) to ostensible co-star Minnie Driver (the once-spurned girlfriend who he’s reconnecting with) to Alan Arkin (the psychiatrist who doesn’t want Cusack as a patient but is scared of him) to Jeremy Piven (Cusack’s hometown friend and realtor who sold Cusack’s mother’s house to become a convenience store) and, finally, to comedy legend Dan Aykroyd in one of his best turns on the big screen as the assassin looking to kill Cusack.

Whew!
The story of “Grosse Pointe Blank” is that Cusack as “Martin Q. Blank” from Grosse Pointe, Mich., is headed back home to kill some dude. He gets caught up in nostalgia not just from being home and his high school anniversary, but also that his mother is now institutionalized there and he’s looking to reform his life and seeks out the woman whom he abandoned on prom night 10 years previously.
Again, whew! And you thought your life is complicated!
It’s kind of difficult to accept someone as smooth and laid back as Cusack projects to being an amoral, cold-blooded assassin … at least until you see him kill another hitman with a frying pan. Cusack obviously enjoys playing this type of convoluted character and it shows on screen in every one of his scenes in “Grosse Pointe Blank.”
The entire cast of “Grosse Pointe Blank” is so on-point that this is a “sleeper” film to show just how the final look of all film productions should be presented. You won’t find a single flaw with “Grosse Pointe Blank.”
So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Grosse Pointe Blank.” It is available on one subscription platform and can be rented via other streaming services. Without any doubt, you will thank me later when you watch “Grosse Pointe Blank” today!
