Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, I’m looking at three films today, but only one that I can recommend: “The Hangover.” While “The Hangover” was an immediate raunchy comedy classic of the most R-rated variety, the two sequels were just basic crap and it’s kind to just call the second sequel “crap.”
“The Hangover” made sure of two things: First, that “The Hangover Part II” and “The Hangover Part III” would be made and, second, that the bar was set so high with the first that the other two would never measure up to that standard. Of course, it took a total lack of creativity to make the second and then a complete surrender of any intelligence to inflict the third on those who fondly remembered the first.
As you remember, “The Hangover” is the story of a group of friends who go off to Las Vegas for one’s bachelor party. From there, the tale spirals to include them waking up the next morning with one guy missing; a tiger in their bathroom at a Caesar’s Palace suite; a baby in a cabinet in the suite; and their valet-parked car turns out to be a police cruiser.
Hmmm. Just your average post-bachelor party scene, right?
The creativity of “The Hangover” is that each facet builds a step to the next level until you discover that the tiger belongs to boxing superstar Mike Tyson, but first the remaining guys find out they’ve accidentally kidnapped someone.
Huh? Did that happen at your bachelor party?
Finally, the series of photos that the group took during the night they could not remember is both hilarious as well as obscene. A final cap on an impressively raunchy film.
Sadly, both sequels to the “The Hangover” just give you a hangover. In the first, the guys go to Thailand for the wedding of the dentist in group and basically try to reprise comedy … but fail. The second sequel is so execrable that I’m not writing another word about it.
So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “The Hangover,” but none of its sequels. All are available for rent via a variety of streaming platforms. You will thank me later when you watch “The Hangover” today!
