Ticket to the Movies: ‘Moving Violations’ is terrible, but has its moments

Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, I’m going to recommend another bad film that had promise; has its moments; but is really, truly crappy: “Moving Violations” with John Murray (brother of comedy legend Bill Murray).

“Moving Violations” is centered around a bent cop and crooked judge who make ill-gotten money off people who get tickets, but you don’t really need to know anything about the plot to enjoy this bad film. It has the actor known best for her saying “Where’s the beef?” and her friend winds up believing she’s on the toilet in a ladies restroom instead of sitting in the urinal of a men’s bathroom while asking, “Why is my back wet?”

It’s small jokes such as that to make “Moving Violations” a joy despite its simply awful “acting” and production.

With “Moving Violations,” you get a varied supporting cast that includes Robert Conrad as a longsuffering sheriff; James Keach as the bad cop with an attitude; and Sally Kellerman as the over-sexed judge – and she gives a performance that appears as if she had taken too many muscle relaxants before the cameras rolled.

The interesting thing is that Murray had potential with this one. He has his brother’s off-handed insouciance that helps so much in comedy. However, the weak screenplay and his just-below-leading-man ability makes this one somewhat of a desultory effort.

The rest of the cast of “Moving Violations” gives very unremarkable efforts and jokes such as a woman mistaking the owner of an auto shop for a doctor and then getting on a lift for an exam as if she were a sedan. Ouch! And I mean that for the audience and not the actor.

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Moving Violations.” You can’t find it on subscription services or streaming platforms, so you can get a DVD off an online store. You will thank me later if you find it and watch “Moving Violations.”
