Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s go with “Nine to Five” in remembrance of Dolly Parton, who passed at 80 yesterday (Aug. 25, 2026) and left a legacy not only of wonderful entertainment, but also as a superlative human being.

Parton had 157 acting credits, with most being music videos and “Nine to Five” was her first film. It co-starred the also marvelously talented Lily Tomlin and multiple-Oscar winning Jane Fonda. Dolly, like in real life, was a a breath of refreshing air as the assistant who didn’t put up with her “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot” of a boss, played to perfection by the late Dabney Coleman.

It’s always sad to note the passing of a star and Dolly bridged the entire entertainment spectrum. From her limited CV of acting to music to variety productions, she basically channeled her personal persona to the big screen, the little screen and first to music speakers and then through playlists.

As “Doralee Rhodes” in “Nine to Five,” she exhibits all the positives along with a strength of character that might be hidden from folks at first. Although not an Oscar-worthy performance, Parton’s work in “Nine to Five” far surpasses 85-percent of what you see from actors on-screen today. As I noted: A breath of fresh air.

Oh, yes … “Nine to Five” is the original title of the film. Today, most list it as “9 to 5.” Sigh. If you want the title of a film as designed by its director, check out the opening credits. Many films change titles because of marketing or as in the case of “MASH,” movie posters (yes, the original title is “MASH” as the asterisks were added for movie posters and the iconic, legendary tee-vee show used them from the beginning).

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Nine to Five.” It is available to rent on a variety of streaming platforms. You will thank me later, if you find and watch “Nine to Five.”
