Today’s “must” movie is from the from the biggest and best movie franchise in history: It’s “Thunderball” with “007” himself! Of course, “Thunderball” is a Sean Connery flick in the Bond universe and I consider it one of the top three best-evers in the “007”world – along with “Dr. No” and “Goldfinger.”
“Thunderball” has no CGI, but offers spectacular special effects. In this one, “James Bond” is trying to save the world from nuclear disaster and it features a lot of underwater scenes. Remember, in the 1960s when “Thunderball” was released, scuba diving was quite exotic (much less seeing a bunch of divers fighting to the death with spearguns and knives).
“Thunderball” has all the best of the “Bond” world: exotic locales; an end-of-the-world threat; and “Bond, James Bond” as the headliner. What a lot of folks miss is that “Thunderball,” while being an “action” film such as “Dr. No” and “Goldfinger,” also like the other two has a layered storyline that is beyond just what today fills the big screen as action crap with no real acting or storytelling.
So, make sure you go out of your way to watch “Thunderball.” You won’t be disappointed … I guarantee it!
