Today’s ‘must see’ movie: Remembering Raquel Welch through ‘Hannie Caulder’

Today’s “must” movie is “Hannie Caulder” in remembrance of movie and TV icon Raquel Welch, who passed this past Wednesday at 82. Although Welch was better-known for films such as “One Million Years B.C.” and “Myra Breckinridge,” I liked both “The Three Musketeers” but, even more, the western “Hannie Caulder” from 1972 because of the edgy performance by a woman usually more defined by her beauty on screen than the strength she shows in it.

“Hannie Caulder” is the story of a woman who gets revenge on three outlaws who kill her husband and rape her. Along the way, Welch gets to know a bounty hunter who teaches her the finer points of firearms and, more importantly to her, gunfighting. “Hannie Caulder” is interesting because, while it offers Welch’s beauty at times, the focus of the film is emotional drama: Vengeance with a touch of comedy (the three nasty cretins are so stupid in some scenes that it is almost comedic).

So, remember and honor the life and career of Raquel Welch by watching any one of her films or check out her numerous appearances on TV talk shows, TV shows such as “Seinfeld” and awards shows on streaming services.

Make sure you go out of your way to watch “Hannie Caulder.” You won’t be disappointed … I guarantee it!
