50+ years later, our first Scuba regulator is now ‘history’

Look what a friend saw at the History of Diving Museum in Islamorada in the Florida Keys: A Calypso Scuba diving regulator for breathing underwater. I must be getting old, because both my friend and I had this regulator when we were certified as Scuba divers by NAUI instructor Urbano Rodriguez in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in 1972 (that’s a long time ago). Now, this piece of equipment is used to show the “history” of Scuba diving. Wow. I didn’t believe at the time that one day it would be “history.” My friend sent me this photo on July 3, 2024, during his visit to the Keys for some diving (he now has a modern regulator).
