Here is my only memento of having done anything in baseball … and I just threw this ball once! Although I played some softball as an adult, my letter in sports in high school was for golf and I had a career of playing in one high school game of baseball (I was a pinch-hitter, walked on four pitches and got caught attempting to steal a base in my only at-bat). So, fast forward to the early 2000s and it was just over 25 years later from my “playing day” that I threw out the first pitch at a minor league game in Fort Myers, Fla. The team was the Fort Myers Miracle at the time and since been renamed to the Mighty Mussels). I was selected by my company to toss out the first pitch. It was almost a pitiful effort as I basically did an overhand “lob” that I called a “curve ball!” At least I got the ball to the catcher! So, I’ve never caught a foul ball (or home run ball) at any baseball game I’ve attended, but I have kept my “first pitch” ball as a great memory!
