Just more than two years ago in January 2024, I posted about new black-colored carts at our local Publix supermarket. Well, I’ve seen them on many occasions, but they haven’t made much of a dent in the total cart populations at two Publix stores near our home here in Naples, Fla. I got one of them this morning (Friday, May 1, 2026) as I paid a 7 a.m. visit to the Publix at The Strand. I was doing a quick shopping trip and I always enjoy a moment when the luck of the draw finds one of the black (or is it gunmetal?) carts first in line to be taken.
