Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s go with classic comedy through “Uncle Buck” starring the comedy legend John Candy, Macaulay Culkin, Amy Madigan, Laurie Metcalf and Jean Louisa Kelly.

“Uncle Buck” was written and directed by John Hughes, who was especially effective in creating endearing characters and getting the best work out of actors such as Candy. “Uncle Buck” has many memorable moments, but it is Candy that earns the memories for long after you see (or saw) the movie.

“Uncle Buck” is the story of a suburban family that finds itself in a bind: Candy’s sister-in-law’s father has had a heart attack and she and her husband must travel to his bedside. Of course, there’s no babysitter for the two youngest children (including a pre-“Home Alone” Culkin) or the oldest daughter, who is in high school and whose virginity is the target of an over-amorous boyfriend.

Candy, who is a denizen of the city who bowls, smokes cigars and has a career that primarily involves betting, is the last-ditch potential babysitter. He accepts the job and so enters suburbia after having been ostracized by his brother and sister-in-law for years.

You’ll find Candy’s work spectacular from his dealings with the teenager to a memorable showdown with the elementary school principal of the two youngest siblings. Heck, he even punches “Pooter-the-Clown” in the nose after the clown makes vulgar remarks as he arrives to entertain for Culkin’s birthday party!

Along the way, Candy gets involved with a sexually-charged neighbor (Metcalf; but no hanky panky) and tries to mend his relationship with longtime, longsuffering and fed-up girlfriend played by Madigan.

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Uncle Buck.” It is available on some subscription services, but can also be found for rent on a limited number of other streaming channels. So, find it! Watch it! Don’t worry, you’ll thank me later for “Uncle Buck.” Without any doubt, “Yes, you will!”
