Each May 22 is national Solitaire Day as a way honor traditional card game that has been played for more than 200 years and believed to have originated in Germany or Scandinavia. The game was popularized in France in the early 1800s and then its popularity spread to Great Britain and the United States. Today in 2026, you can play Solitaire with a deck of cards … or on your computer or smartphone. By the late 1990s, many companies and government agencies had removed the game from staff members’ computers because of the perception of time lost in playing the game during work hours. So, play a game (or two or three) today. I took this screenshot of my laptop as I played this morning at our home here in Naples, Fla.
