Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s go into the land of “quirk” with a little-remembered, absolutely wonderful film called “Turk 182” starring Timothy Hutton, Kim Cattrall, Peter Boyle, Robert Culp and Robert Urich. It is from director Bob Clark, with whom you’ll be more familiar with through his raunchy comedy “Porky’s” and iconic and legendary holiday flick “A Christmas Story.”

“Turk 182” is the story of a young man whose brother is a firefighter and was injured off-duty as he rescued a child from a burning building. Since he was off-duty and at a bar at the time of the fire, the brother (Urich) had been drinking. The mayor upon being told this fact, calls the brother a “drunk” when asked why medical benefits were withheld.

Uh, oh!

Enter Hutton as the younger brother of the firefighter. He decides to take action against the mayor (Culp) and starts with minor vandalism and pranks, but things escalate in “Turk 182” to an extreme. However, by the climax of the film, the whole city of New York is behind the mystery tormentor of the mayor and Hutton has become known as “Turk 182” (“Turk” is Hutton’s brother’s nickname at the firehouse and “182” is his badge number”).

“Turk 182” has Cattrall as the brother’s social work and she becomes the love interest of the initially disinterested Hutton. Boyle is the tough-guy detective who becomes the personal enemy of Hutton and McGavin is the more laid-back detective on Hutton’s trail.

The film is quite endearing in places and you’ll remember “Turk 182” long after you watch it.

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Turk 182.” It is not available on any streaming platforms – you’ll have to find a DVD (try eBay) or, really turn back the clock and unearth both an old VHS copy and a VHS machine to play it. Don’t worry, if you find it, you’ll thank me later for “Turk 182.”
