Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and I hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s delve into the world of auto racing with “Ford v Ferrari” and its sterling cast that includes headliners Matt Damon and Christian Bale as well as Jon Bernthal, Caitriona Balfe, Ray McKinnon and Josh Lucas.

“Ford v Ferrari” is the “based-on” story of how the meat-and-potatoes Ford company took on exotic carmaker Ferrari by beating the Italian carmaker at the internationally-renowned race at LeMans. It was a personal battle as Ferrari had played Ford by pretending to look to sell to the carmaker from the United States.

In “Ford v Ferrari,” you get Damon as Carroll Shelby, who is hired by Ford to lead the team that will unseat Ferrari at LeMans. As his right-hand man, Bale is the underlying genius of the effort, but, along with his genius, he’s mercurial and not a favorite of Ford’s corporate weasel set.

Here’s what I wrote in my full review of the film:

“… I didn’t believe Matt Damon could pull off playing racing legend Carroll Shelby. I was wrong. I didn’t believe that I’d be able to give high praise to Christian Bale playing opposite Damon. I was wrong. I wanted “Ford v Ferrari” be an entertaining film that would earn high marks from this amateur reviewer. Well, I couldn’t be wrong on all three, now could I?”

The best performance in “Ford v Ferrari” after Bale is turned in by Balfe, who plays Bale’s wife. She does an impressive job as the foundation in the couple’s marriage. Also solid is McKinnon as part of the racing team’s crew.

BTW … “Ford v Ferrari” is NOT a documentary. Filmmakers had to compress some of the facts for storytelling purposes, so, if you know the actual details of the Ford effort against Ferrari, don’t let it ruin the experience of watching a wonderful film.

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Ford v Ferrari.” It is available on a limited number of subscription services and is available to rent via several other streaming services. Don’t worry, you’ll thank me later if you watch “Ford v Ferrari.”
