Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, summer doesn’t just mean fun because it is a time when students finalize applications for a seat at a university and let’s take a look at “How I Got Into College” and its something less than A-list cast that manages to be an OK film and one you can all too easily enjoy.

“How I Got Into College” is essentially an ensemble cast movie from Anthony Edwards to Lara Flynn Boyle to Phil Hartman to Finn Carter to Charles Rocket to Nora Dunn and finally in the most creative supporting story: two characters “A” and “B” from standardized tests who demean and criticize the character central to the story (played in a solid turn by Corey Parker).

You’ll get all the roller coaster rides you expect with “How I Got Into College” and, while stereotypes flourish more than tulips in the Netherlands, all the special little details, including Parker’s mild-mannered father and social grasping stepmother or the poor girl who is stronger than anyone can imagine, add up to a bigger picture.

“How I Got Into College” has a central focus of the boy who is still “finding himself” while pining after the most important girl at high school. Of course, he’s much more focused and intelligent than most have come to see and she’s more insecure than anyone could imagine. Of course and of course again, they find each other, but only after she exposes herself to a college interviewer!

The most  interesting scene is where Parker’s admissions essay (done in a video format) is played near the end of the film. His video sums up the college admission process perfectly and the movie’s underlying theme is how college admissions were too focused on numbers. Heck, they’re still too focused on numbers, but that’s a different story for today’s age.

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “How I Got Into College.” “How I Got Into College” is available as part of several subscription platforms and on a variety of streaming services. You’ll thank me later when you watch “How I Got Into College” today!
