Ticket to the Movies: ‘A Very Brady Sequel’ is a very, very fun ‘reboot’

Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, one of the most wonderful delights in cinema is when a remake (“reboot” or whatever you want to call one) is simply terrific and one example of a sequel to a reboot is “A Very Brady Sequel!”

In case you have zero clue about the original tee-vee show “The Brady Bunch” or its several tee-vee movie spinoffs or the first big-screen effort called with little creativity “The Brady Bunch Movie,” “A Very Brady Sequel” is about that iconic tee-vee show and is nothing less than wonderful entertainment (if you enjoyed the original).

I’ve enjoyed the “reboots” of such legendary tee-vee series as “The Dukes of Hazzard” and “Baywatch,” but “A Very Brady Sequel” makes a total bullseye when it comes to reviving the original.

As in the first big-screen effort, “A Very Brady Sequel” pokes fun at all the family-friendly traits of the “Brady” clan. While mocking is at the heart of “A Very Brady Sequel,” it is the familiarity with the original that makes it understandable and especially funny and fun.

In “A Very Brady Sequel,” “Carol Brady’s” first husband, who was believed dead, arrives back to screw up the entire “Brady” dynamic. The wonderful Tim Matheson plays this character and the iconic maid “Alice” accidentally cooks up some mushrooms she finds in his luggage. Matheson then notes that he’s “… trippin’ with the Bradys!” Ha!

Unlike in the original series or initial tee-vee flicks, with “A Very Brady Sequel” you get a smidge of possible incest when oldest son “Greg” is attracted oldest sister “Marcia” (and vice versa). Remember, they’re not blood relatives, but it is this kind of facet to the movie that made several of the original cast critical of the movie.

Further, you get RuPaul as a mother of two girls the same age as the oldest and middle “Brady” girls. Yes, RuPaul and RuPaul is simply wonderful in this one.

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “A Very Brady Sequel.” It is available for rent via a variety of streaming platforms. You will thank me later when you watch “A Very Brady Sequel” today!
