Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s take another hike along one of my favorite trails: The raunchy comedy with the very R-rated classic “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle” with John Cho and Kal Penn as the titled headliners.

“Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle” is the first of the duo’s three “Harold & Kumar” films and I first reviewed the initial sequel called “Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.” Brevity in titles isn’t a hallmark for Penn and Cho! Oh, their third was “A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas” in 3D and seven years after the first.

The title of “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle” give you all you need to know about the plot. The guys get a craving for that fast-food chain’s iconic “sliders” and basically embark on a quest. The movie is a series of vignettes where a variety of crude or disgusting things happen from a women’s restroom at a college to a disgusting conversation at a fast-food drive-through (not a White Castle) to giving an over-sexed and profane hitchhiker a lift (Neil Patrick Harris) to a small town jail and finally at a White Castle restaurant.

Also along the way in “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle,” you will experience numerous weed references and an uncomfortable moment when Penn is at a hospital (the context involves a raccoon in his and Cho’s car) and he’s confronted by his angry father for ditching an interview for admission to medical school.

Wow. These guys sure lead an interesting life!

After Harris, there’s only one actor I’ll mention: the very hilarious Fred Willard. He interviews Penn at the beginning of the film and is horrified when Kal talks openly on the phone with Cho about his plans for smoking weed that evening.

“Harold & Kumar’s” most interesting friends are the somewhat creepy “Goldstein” and “Rosenberg” and the co-dependent characters would be reprised in both sequels.

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle,” unless you are easily offended. You can’t find it on subscription services, but it is available on a variety of rental platforms. You will thank me later if you find it and watch “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.”
