Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s go director Quentin Tarantino with “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood!” Here’s the big-screen hit starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and and especially terrific Margo Robbie as a group in Hollywood in 1969.
“Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood” is the story of DiCaprio as “Rick Dalton” and his star is fading fast in the entertainment world. His stunt double; his buddy; and his basic entourage is Pitt as “Cliff Booth,” a handyman and would-be stunt man who is rumored to have killed his wife with a speargun.
OK! We’re moving right along in Hollywood!
Of course, the film winds it way to include the “family” of the not-so-fictional Charles Manson as well as DiCaprio’s neighbor: A “hot” director named “Roman Polanski” and the soon-to-be-mother of his child, “Sharon Tate” (Robbie). Well, despite the factual ending of the Manson-Polanski-Tate tragedy, the film takes a different ending.
“Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood” is truly marvelous, Both DiCaprio and Pitt are simply tremendous, but Robbie is over-the-top sensational because of the quality of her physical “acting” as part of her character. Robbie will have to go far and wide to find a more defining role for her career.
I don’t want to spoil too much for those who have not watched “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood,” but DiCaprio’s best scene is his interaction with a young actor on a set. Sadly, Tarantino obviously used a couple of actors in what becomes hideous, throwaway characters: Al Pacino as “Marvin Schwartz” and Damien Lewis as “Steve McQueen,” who never needed to be written into the script, much less making the final cut (and Lewis’ perm is just nasty to observe).
me.
So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood.” It is available on on several subscription services as well as a variety of rental platforms. You will thank me later if you find it and watch “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood.”
