Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s go with a run-of-the-mill 1970s crime drama called “Cops and Robbers” and it’s not totally “run-of-the-mill” when the plot focuses more on plot twists than action. “Cops and Robbers” has Cliff Gorman and Joseph Bologna doing workmanlike efforts.
“Cops and Robbers” is the story of two cops (one a detective and the other in uniform) who are suburban neighbors and become co-conspirators in crime. It starts out as supplementing their somewhat thin civil service paychecks and balloons to a $2 million swindle of mobsters (remember when $2 million appeared to be a lot of dough?).
I enjoyed “Cops and Robbers” because of the neat plot antics written in by novelist Donald E. Westlake from his novel of the same title. From how the guys use being cops (such as using police cars available to them) to the most interesting of all: When they steal bonds, they shred them and throw them into the Manhattan street below as a parade went by (that way they didn’t have to maintain possession of the stolen property).

“Cops and Robbers” doesn’t have much in the way of a great supporting cast, but, like the co-stars, they do a workmanlike job and the film never lags as such efforts often bring to the screen.
Like most crime films, “Cops and Robbers” has the introductory effort (Bologna pulls a stick-up by just walking into a liquor store in uniform, pulling his gun and walking out with the cash); to the middle-level planning; to the big heist; and then to the climax with the mobsters; and then the denouement.
So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Cops and Robbers.” It is available on several subscription services or to rent or buy on a variety of streaming services. You will thank me later for “Cops and Robbers.”
