Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s jump far afield for today’s recommendation with the Russian flick about World War II called “Tankers.” It stars no one you’ve ever watched on the big screen; it’s dubbed into English; but it has great tank battle scenes!
“Tankers” is similar to another Russian tank flick called “T-34” that I’ve reviewed (the T-34 was the designation for what’s considered by many as the best WWII era tank). “Tankers” is about the crew of a KV-1 heavy tank that distinguishes themselves by single-handedly annihilating a force of Nazi tanks.

“Tankers” takes the stereotypical road in telling the story from a hard-ass tank commander to a motley crew that needs a bit of whipping into shape and finally to their ultimate triumph. It’s a tale oft told in many war movies over the past eight decades or so. However, “Tankers” is solid where many other war flicks fail: The story is tight and focused and the combat scenes alone would make it worth your attention.
As I noted, you won’t recognize any of the cast and their voices are all dubbed, but “Tankers” still plays out well in telling the story of a somewhat controversial tank commander who doesn’t have the best reputation with his superiors because he’s more often right while they’re the typical inefficient, incompetent bureaucratic senior officers.
“Tankers” has a bit of a love story with the tank commander and a woman tank repair specialist and their previous and now current “relationship.”

About the only stereotype you won’t find in “Tankers” is the crew assisting in the birth of a baby. Such a scene happens all too often in films and one of the best examples of the poor execution of this type of scene can be found in the U.S. WWII flick “The Big Red One.”
BTW … the movie is accurate in that the KV-1 tank was nearly impervious to all German anti-tank weapons and panzer tank cannons at the date noted for the action in the movie, but both German Panzer IV tanks and the Russian T-34/85 tanks shown in the film are models that had not yet been produced at the time.
So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Tankers.” It is available to stream on a few services including Amazon and is available to rent or buy on a few others. So, find it! Watch it! Don’t worry, you’ll thank me later for “Tankers.”
