Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, since I recently recommended the teen comedy “The Hollywood Knights,” I’ll go straight into the deep end of raunchy comedy with the legendary “Porky’s” with a cast you mostly never heard from again when that franchise died out.

“Porky’s” became an instant legend for its voyeurism and teen enthusiasm for sexual infatuation, sexual situations and sexual entendre and double entendre (anyone remember who “Mike Hunt” represents?). “Porky’s” packs it all in and is best-remembered for the girls’ shower room scene where a female PE teacher plays tug-of-war with one of the guys through a hole in the wall!

Of course, in today’s world, “Porky’s” represents sexual harassment and a teenage boy’s misogynistic view of everything. However, “Porky’s” was almost mainstream in the early 1980s and earned more than $100 million at the box office to land as No. 5 or No. 6 for the year for box office totals (depending on which online resource you choose).

“Porky’s” is the story of a bunch of friends at the 1950s fictional “Angel Beach” and its namesake “Angel Beach High School.” BTW … read it as Fort Lauderdale. They run around, mostly seeking sexual adventures and loving to play pranks on each other. They run into “Porky,” who runs a sketchy bar and striptease joint in what is assumed by the audience to be the Everglades or rural Florida just north of the ’Glades, and their revenge on him becomes the focus of the film.
I’m not gonna go any further in storytelling about “Porky’s” as you’ve most likely have seen and enjoyed the film or have formed a negative opinion about the movie through misunderstood comments about it. “Porky’s” is simply fun and much fall-down funny comedy.
“Porky’s” is the answer to an interesting piece of Hollywood trivia: It is the film that allowed director Bob Clark to gain the financial strength to make a personal project film that has since eclipsed “Porky’s” in popularity: “A Christmas Story.” Yes, the success of “Porky’s” gave Clark the power to get his Christmas film made since he said he’d only do a sequel to “Porky’s” if allowed to make “A Christmas Story.” He was allowed and so there is a sequel to “Porky’s.”
So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Porky’s.” It is available on limited subscription platforms and can be rented via other streaming services. Without any doubt, you will thank me later when you watch “Porky’s” today!
