While, every May 5 is national Hoagie Day, every Sept. 14 is national Eat a Hoagie Day … and today is Sept. 14, 2026! A “hoagie” is vernacular for a submarine sandwich, a term predominately used in the northeastern U.S. and its names across other regions include sub, hero or a grinder. Some even consider the iconic Cuban Sandwich a “hoagie” (and Cuban Sandwich Day is each Aug. 23). I took this photo of a sub sandwich I had in March 2026 at our home here in Naples, Fla. So, today on Sept. 14, treat yourself today with a “hoagie” with everything! (Remember: Click on the small image for a bigger version – then click on that one for the full-size photo.)
