Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s go with an early Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick with “Commando.” It’s from 1985 and nothing more than really big slice of violent cheese! Of course, it’s watchable … if you enjoy this genre in cinema!
Once he gets going in this one (just after the halfway point of “Commando”), he mows ’em like you do to your front-yard grass in the summer … which is somewhat apropos, since he even used garden tools to take bad guys some out!

“Commando” is the story of a former commando living the “quiet life” with his daughter (Alyssa Milano, who was 12 when the movie was released). The film is so saccharine and stereotypical that Arnie and Alyssa even get together to pet a deer and have ice cream. Ah, simple family pleasures!

Since “Commando” is an action movie, the idyllic setting doesn’t last long and Arnie’s daughter has been kidnapped as a way to force him to assassinate another country’s leader. Yeah, threatening Arnie is always a great way in film (and probably in life, too).
“Commando” finishes up at the bad-guy leaders headquarters on a fictional island and while hundreds, if not thousands, of rounds of ammo are shot at Arnie, only Schwarzenegger’s gunfire hits anyone (and so, too, do the garden implements).
With “Commando,” the supporting cast isn’t much, but you will enjoy seeing Rae Dawn Chong as Schwarzenegger’s at-first reluctant sidekick. She doesn’t do much with her character, but since the film is totally cheesy to begin with, you don’t expect much from her, either.
So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Commando.” It is available on limited subscription services and is available to rent or buy on several streaming services. You will thank me later for “Commando.”
